De La Vega in 2004 made a splash on the Belgian pop scene with a beautiful mini-album, a striking single (“Surely”) which received airplay on almost every radio station, a classy video that went straight into high rotation on TMF, favourable press reviews and convincing live performances which helped gain them a considerable following. In less than no time the quartet – named after the notorious hero Diego De La Vega, a.k.a. Zorro – built up a respectable reputation, which even spread to the U.K. and Holland.

One year later the album “Falling Into Place”, which contained the singles “Aspects Of You”, “Better Be Divine” and “Missing You”, considerably broadened the band’s horizon and renown. Conceived in their own home studio, finalised under the supervision of engineer Marc François and enriched with various guest performances, “Falling Into Place” was the elegant vehicle of an ambitious band at cruising speed. The critical fanfare again rang out loud, sales figures turned out more than respectable and the quarter played every mayor concert stage in the country. Untimately DLV were presented with the Focus trophy for best newcomers at the recent ZAMU Awards show, the pinnacle of three years of hard work.

“So what does the DLV chemistry consist of?”, one might ask. It’s definitely to be found in the workings of the three-piece nucleus JP De Brabander (guitar, electronics, computer), Ben Van De Velde (bass, electronics, computer) and David Van Belleghem (drums, electronics, computer), formerly of Looplizard and Orgasmaddix fame. They cover a poignant range of dub, noise, (nu) jazz, soul, funk and rock influences, which are blended into an entirely wholesome and enchanting mix and topped off with outstanding vocals. Until recently these were provided by Lize Accoe. She chose however to embark on a solo career, and is replaced by the classically trained and equally soul-ridden Elke Bruyneel.

Meanwhile the new songs and the pre-production for the second album are being knocked into shape. Taking into account the versatile character of the De La Vega family, surprises are not to be excluded... Pending that new chapter in the DLV story, watch out for the cutting edge remixes by Ruff & Jam of live favourite “Theme”, set for release on the 19th of May.
